Hulhumale - Island

Hulhumale is an artificial island located in the southern part of North Male Atoll. Land reclamation of Hulhumale began on October 16, 1997. The artificial island was built to meet the demand for future residential and commercial development required in Malé region. The official settlement was inaugurated by President Gayoom on 12 May 2004. It's built many houses on the island, as well as plenty of shops and restaurants. In the local shops you can buy local fruits and other necessary food for your stay. On Hulhumale you will find lots of cafes and restaurants offering different tastes of food and the cafes are more known for coffee and short meals.

Hulhumale has a barbecue area where many locals go to on Friday and Saturday to grill and be together. Otherwise there are plenty of activities you can take advantage of.

There are two types of transport on Hulhumale, public bus transportation and taxi service.

You can do various activities in Hulhumale. The island has a long artificial public beach that you can use for swimming. Maldivies is a 100% muslimisk country and therefore it is forbidden to swim wearing bikinis, swimsuits, etc ... on inhabited islands and public beaches.

But there are many places around Hulhumale where these rules do not apply, for example, resort islands, picnic islands and sandbanks, where we do not limit our guests for sunbathing in public. We organize trips to these places daily on request.
