You’re sure to have a unique experience whether you’re a first-timer or an expert, and even if you’re not usually into fishing.
More than a pastime
Although fishing in Maldives is one of the biggest industries, with a substantial amount in the Gross Domestic Product, it also is a pastime that nearly all the locals both men and women of all ages enjoy.
A predominant meat in the Maldives, most cuisine include groupers, tuna, emperors, barracuda, squirrelfish, rainbow runner and lots of other types of exotic fish that make many a meal. You only need a fishing line and hook to hone in on your fishing skills in the blue waters of the Maldives as you can cast off at virtually anywhere in the country.
Fishing of all kinds
Fishing in the Maldives can be categorized into 3 types: casual day fishing, big game fishing and night fishing. Causal day fishing can happen anywhere, whether on a jetty with lots of fish in the lagoon, or at sea, on a traditional fishing vessel.
Big game fishing is hugely dependent on the fishing locations and the weather. Big catches like Wahoo, marlin, sailfish, barracuda, swordfish, yellow fish tuna and many other big fishes can be caught early in the day. You can hire fishing equipment and speedboats and set out with a guide on your big game adventure. Don’t forget to inquire about precautions and laws so that you will not cross the laws and regulations in the Maldivian environmental conservation efforts.
Always remember that the Maldivian government does not allow hunting of dolphins and whales. It also prohibits the use of harpoon guns and there are some protected areas which employ a blanket ban on fishing.
Night fishing in Maldives is also equally popular where you can catch barracuda, snappers, emperors and squirrelfish, among others. Lulling waves and amazing starscape of the night sky accompany you on night fishing expeditions.
